"I don’t care who you are. When you sit down to write the first page of your screenplay, in your head, you’re also writing your Oscar acceptance speech."
I feel like its been forever since my last personal written post. And I as I proclaimed before about wanting to post more in this regard…have failed my own challenge miserably. Well I am not going to be too hard on myself. For the simple fact that my blogging or lack there of was truly from being busy! Yes, as an up and coming Music Video & Film Director/Writer amongst other interest, I have been very busy! Which when creating is always G O O D!
I’ve been from pre-production to post-production and back again with multiple projects and its just barely July 1st! It’s summer and I feel like besides the heat of the summer sun, I wanted to put more heat in what I am trying to accomplish this season. I have immediate goals for the next weeks and couple of months to come to attain. This is a challenge I welcome and at the brink of this all I have switched my work mode completely to the “New York State of Mind”.
Listen if you’ve never lived or hell ever been to New York City you won’t get it. But here is my definition:
New Yorkers NEVER let ANYTHING defeat them, stop them, get in their way, or bring them down. The hustle mentality is bread in the people there and they thrive off of it. The attitude is DO IT, GO FOR IT and DO IT NOW! Whether you win or lose….
If you LOSE, do it until you WIN, which really means until you SUCCEED. **This must be something that’s worthwhile (or fun), nothing with bad intentions of course.
It’s a lead, follow, or just get the hell out of the way attitude. If you got something to say, say it, get to the point, don’t ramble, etc.
The rest of the world, especially southerners (and I swear L.A. is the South!!) take this as being rude, ballsy or cocky. New Yorkers just get to the point in a sentence or 2, instead of a paragraph. They even walk across the huge city streets of Manhattan in a fast pace, in a herd of intensity! Everyone has something to do and places to go. No time to stop, and stragglers will be trampled.
It’s the New York pace…… a serious race…get it, catch it, do it… THE ALL OR NOTHING MENTALITY……It’s the New York State of Mind…..!!
I have been lucky enough to have visited, lived and worked in New York City for a collective 3 years while receiving my undergraduate degree. And during that span of time I’ve managed to keep that mentality as a handy tool in my life as I continue to grow, move forward in my career and meet/network with others. Having this tool is truly a life saver while living in L.A. for sure. It keeps me on my toes and my aggressive nature towards what I want to do allows me to often be ahead of the curve.
Now I am sure you asking, well if you have it already why are you switching your mode?
Well to be honest, I haven’t used this tool in a while. I’ve let it collect dust though its not to the point of rust which I am grateful for. Nevertheless, I have falling back a little on my hustle spirit and I’ve even notice that I started picking up the nasty habits of Californians. You know, being more defensive, non reactionary to anything, slower, oblivious, boring…you know all the things that are completely OPPOSITE of my New Yorkers! So yes, this mindset change is very much needed and just in the nick of time!
I am in the middle of post production for 2 short films produced by my collective (Despite The Inevitable and Victorious Lola), they are headed to special contest and festivals. I have my final short film of the year in pre-production which is not even close to completion we still have to location scout 80% of the film, cast and uh yeah…FINANCE (indie-gogo campaign coming soon)! I am also finishing up my treatment for my first music video of the summer by a fantastic musician and artist Kasi Jones shooting the end of July. Moreover, I am preparing to launch my new T-Shirt Apparel line within the next month!! I am not even going to write about graphic designing projects (that’s a whole other beast). Needless to say, I am and will continue to be a BUSY BEE this summer and a little help from my tool aka “NEW YORK STATE OF MIND” will get my hustling spirit and grinding engine rived up to finish what I’ve started and complete all aspects of these goals.
I want to inspire as I always say, because it is true. I want to inspire young people to have goals, complete them and always strive for ABSOLUTE EXCELLENCE! There is no better gratification then knowing you’ve tried your best and succeeded!!

I’m all about this new Indy by Lee Daniels oh yeah! Paper Boy from the poster alone it looks good. That’s right write so that there is no color, anyone can play the characters and it will be successful. I’m all about this life think out of the box, out of your comfort zone or what others believe is your comfort zone. The beauty of fictional film is that it can go anywhere be anything you want it to be. Written with human nature it can be translucent and transcend all races, backgrounds and colors. That’s what I pray I write with, that’s what I want to write like and have all these intentions. Congrats Lee Daniels! Make it happen, I’ll be there to support!! Plus that Zach Efron is a cutie!! Lol
Last vid of the night, I have to hit the sack got the j o b in the morning, gym and a meeting with a new perspective member for my artist collective. Lots to accomplish tomorrow and for the week. THIS IS PURE INSPIRATION!!! Thank you SPIKE LEE for visually taking up on a ride throughout your beautiful movies, I want to shoot a dolly shot like this at least once as a tribute to him and his work, trust this will happen! Enjoy!!! So friggin awasome!
