Pharrell Williams produces the ‘Love Songs’ bonus cut
Last summer, Beyoncé’s father and former manager Mathew Knowles stoked up Destiny’s Child reunion rumors when he told Huffington Post that a pair of retrospective compilations were on the horizon, which would feature “new material.” The first of those sets arrived in October — Playlist: The Very Best of Destiny’s Child — sans any big surprises, but the second has just been announced, and it features the first freshly recorded song from the R&B ladies in eight years. Love Songs, due January 29, promises “mainly … romantic gems recorded between 1997 and 2004,” but also includes a track called “Nuclear” produced by Pharrell Williams and featuring the final DC lineup: Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams.
In other Bey news, the soon-to-be Super Bowl XLVII halftime heroine appears in a new GQ profile that unfortunately includes very few revelations. She does, however, speak of her time with the girl group that put her on the path to world domination. ”You know, when I was writing the Destiny’s Child songs, it was a big thing to be that young and taking control,” she explains. “And the label at the time didn’t know that we were going to be that successful, so they gave us all control. And I got used to it. It is my goal in life to be that example. And I think it will, hopefully, trickle down, and more artists will see that. Because it only makes sense. It’s only fair.” Her HBO documentary, Beyoncé, airs next month.
There are soooo many critics in this world. I actually dig it, its different from the normal DC we are used to, but everyone changes. Listen, if we don’t experiment creatively, we will never grow into our full potential. I also believe that we are currently in a growing stage when it comes to RnB. I think of the music genre as a older teenager who is trying to figure our who they are, what to look like and who to be. They are just about to leave the awkward stage and blossom into a beautiful swan of the 21st century.
There is a sub-subculture developing within RnB and I call it Alternative Soul or Alternative RnB. Its not the usual top 40 its different, experimental and eclectic. With your Miguels, Solanges, Frank Oceans and the up and coming indy artist I know all can be in this sub-category and culture of music. I like it, I’ve been on it for a minute now. I am an alternative music head anyway so if and when I hear it in a more soulful way I can really get into it. I am not understanding what people were expecting…Solider 2?
Moreover, anytime you have Pharrell Williams produce your music, it is going to be on some intergalactic smooth vintage & airy soul sounds that cannot be considered ordinary. Like I said I did it, listen to it for yourself and gather your own opinion. I may be more bias because I am an artist, singer and fan of DC but just check it out!
So listen, if you follow my blog you know what type of music I’m into (alternative, mellow, electric pop, dance, hip-hop/pop, hard beats, soul and on and on)….
Teresa Jenee is one of those artist you need to watch. She’s peeking into the current music sludge with refreshing hopeful lyrics combined with Pharrell/ N.E.R.D like beats that keep you dreaming and thinking. Her voice is a mix of the gospel powerhouse Kim Burrell, lyrical stylings of Lauryn Hill with a hint of Prince.
